Written by: Ahmedabdulhamed

I'm very excited and humbled to be running to represent you in the next Queensland State Parliament and keen on making a substantial positive difference in our community on all grounds that matter to you. As a hard-working Computer Engineer, mature post-graduate student and nearly decade-long Brisbane Southsider, I've experienced the same daily challenges most of you and your family members have experienced.

My journey in Australia, from an immigrant to a potential political representative, is a testament to my commitment to this country, which I call "Home" and my community. My years of volunteering for causes like social justice, environmental protection, and human rights advocacy have instilled a profound understanding of these interconnected issues.

They are the critical challenges shaping our present and future.

I sincerely believe in Australia and its core values:

fairness, opportunity and respect for all. My journey into politics stems from a sincere love for the country and a desire to foster a more inclusive society, build bridges, and defend our community against biases and racism.

My parents are from Egypt:

an army veteran father and a social worker mother. Their tolerance and dedication inspired me.

Their diverse life experiences have shaped me into who I am today. They taught me to fight for my country and what I believe in with passion and empathy and how to handle difficult situations and work them out for everyone.

My representation is not a sudden decision but a result of years of understanding the realities on the ground and a shared aspiration for a brighter future for our community. This is not just for this campaign but a part of an unstoppable grassroots movement.

It's a collective effort, a commitment to a future that benefits all of us. Our community needs an adequate democratic representation where concerns are listened to and acted upon.

As a member of the Queensland Greens, I am not financially tied to any private interests, ensuring that community needs are always my priority. I am committed to fighting for a ban on corporate donations and ensuring large corporations contribute their fair share to the community and show genuine care to the ordinary people and their needs.

My advocacy includes fighting for publicly owned services, fully funded public schools, accessible healthcare, and mental health services. I believe in the power of community-based initiatives to ensure safety and support for at-risk youth.

Moreover, I'll push for free public transport for kids and free meals in public schools to alleviate the living costs. I'll fight for a publicly funded independent small business office, community legal advisors for small businesses and adequately resourced, multi-lingual, small business advisory centres to facilitate innovation and start-up culture within our community.

As your elected representative, I'll fight for justice and stable housing for all, Ensuring we are doing the best we can for the next generations growing up. My beloved voter, Your vote matters cause it can change the future, and this is the time to change for a better representation that cares about you, not just being very good at pretending to care.

The Australian Greens, identifying as a social democratic party under the leadership of Adam Bandt, adhere to four main pillars. Social justice, sustainability, grassroots democracy, and peace and non-violence, reflecting their alignment with global green politics.

Financially, they advocate for equitable taxation, opposing tax cuts favoring high income earners, promoting a wealth tax on billionaires, and supporting the creation of a publicly owned bank.

The Greens call for enhanced welfare policies, affordable housing, rent caps, increased income support, free public transport and childcare, and debt forgiveness for students. They support universal healthcare expansion, including dental and mental health, reproductive rights, drug law reform, and legal cannabis.
