Who is Anas Sarwar?
Anas Sarwar, born on March 14, 1983, in Glasgow, Scotland, is a prominent British politician serving as the Leader of the Scottish Labour Party since February 2021. He represents the Glasgow region as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) since 2016.
Before his tenure as MSP, Sarwar served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Central from 2010 to 2015.
Early Life and Education:
Sarwar was raised in Glasgow by Pakistani Muslim parents. He attended Hutchesons' Grammar School and pursued higher education in general dentistry at the University of Glasgow.
Before entering politics, he practiced as a dentist in Paisley.
Political Career:
Sarwar's political journey began when he succeeded his father, Chaudhry Sarwar, as MP for Glasgow Central in 2010. During his time in the House of Commons, he served as Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party from 2011 to 2014.
He lost his seat in the 2015 general election but was elected as an MSP in the 2016 Scottish Parliament election on the Glasgow regional list.
