Gavin Newlands was born in 1980 in the old Paisley Maternity Hospital and has lived in Renfrew since he was four years old. He attended St James' Primary School and Trinity High School in Renfrew.

Early Career and Community Involvement:

Before entering politics, Newlands had a successful career in the private sector. He was also actively involved in his local community, serving as a keen member of the Renfrew Community Council for five years.

Political Career:

Newlands has been a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP) since 1992, joining during the campaign against the Poll Tax. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire North in the 2015 Westminster election and was subsequently re-elected in the General Elections of 2017 and 2019.

As an MP, Newlands has been dedicated to representing his constituency in the UK Parliament.

Personal Life and Interests:

Outside of politics, Gavin Newlands is married to Lynn and they have two daughters, Eilidh and Emma. He played rugby for Paisley Rugby Club for seventeen years and remains an active supporter of the club.

Newlands can often be found cheering on the team on Saturdays, balancing his commitments to work and family.

Community Engagement:

Newlands is known for his extensive community engagement, holding a regular programme of 14 advice surgeries across the constituency, the highest of any Scottish MP. This dedication reflects his commitment to being accessible and responsive to the needs of his constituents.

Current Status:

As of the dissolution of Parliament, Gavin Newlands is no longer an MP but remains the SNP candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North. He continues to actively campaign and engage with his community, striving to represent their interests and address their concerns effectively.
