Who is Gordon Bradbery?

Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM has been the Lord Mayor of Wollongong since September 2011. Before his tenure as Lord Mayor, Bradbery had a long career as a Uniting Church Minister, where he was heavily involved in mental health, aged care, and homelessness charities and organizations.

Honors and Recognition:

Bradbery was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to local government, the community of the Illawarra, and the Uniting Church. In addition to his pastoral duties, he was responsible for the Wollongong Community Care Centre, which runs welfare programs for the disadvantaged.

Education:

Bradbery holds bachelor's degrees in psychology, sociology, and divinity from the University of Sydney.

Community Service:

He has held numerous positions outside his ministry role, including Chairperson of Lifeline South Coast for 15 years. Police Chaplain for the Wollongong Region for 14 years.

Rural Fire Service Chaplain. Advocate for mental health.

Awards:

Bradbery has received several awards, including the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1996 and Rotary International's Paul Harris Fellowship Medal in 1996 and 2009. In 2018, he was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia.

Gordon Alfred Bradbery was born on 8 May 1951 in Tamworth, New South Wales. He resides in Wollongong and is an Independent politician.
