She has been married for 37 years and lives with her husband, two sons, and a rescue dog. Her personal interests include music, singing, dog training, psychology, science, and nature.

She is motivated by a concern for the extensive influence that unelected corporate and global organizations exert on key policies affecting everyday life.

Mackenzie Gould is critical of the current system of governance, which she describes as corrupt, inept, and unfit. Her campaign is driven by the aim to address both national and local issues from the perspective of the residents of Edinburgh.
