Jason Bloch's grandparents were immigrants who fled poverty and tyranny in Russia and Eastern Europe to start anew in America. His father served in the US Army, and his parents settled in South Florida.
There, his father established a small business, while his mother worked as a substitute teacher. Jason and his older brother Adam, who is a Captain with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and a firefighter/paramedic, were raised in this environment of freedom and opportunity.
After graduating from law school in Washington, D.C., Jason returned to Miami and chose a path of public service over private practice. He served as an Assistant County Attorney for Miami-Dade County from 1994 to 2014.
In 2014, the Governor appointed him as a Miami-Dade Circuit Criminal Court Judge, a position he held until 2017. Following his tenure as a judge, Jason dedicated his legal practice to providing pro bono representation for nonprofit organizations and individuals and families in need.
His efforts were recognized with the 2021-2022 Access to Justice Pro Bono Award.
Jason's extensive legal career includes serving as lead counsel in numerous trials and appeals in both state and federal courts, including the Florida Supreme Court. He has been a legal advisor to various Miami-Dade County agencies such as the Public Health Trust, Cultural Affairs, Nuisance Abatement Board, and Medical Examiner Department.
As a Circuit Judge in the Criminal Division for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County from 2014 to 2017, Jason was nominated and appointed based on merit and qualifications after a rigorous screening process.
Jason holds a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as an associate editor for The Tax Lawyer law journal, coached and participated in Moot Court, and received the American Jurisprudence Award for top performance in Federal Courts and the Federal System. He also holds a B.A.
in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a proud graduate of South Florida public schools.
Jason has been active in various service and leadership roles. He received the Access to Justice Pro Bono Award from Miami-Dade Legal Aid (2021-2022) and the John Edward Smith Child Advocacy Award from Lawyers for Children America (2015).
He has given presentations on professionalism in practice, victims’ rights under Florida law, and the Constitution. His service includes being the Mayor’s representative on the City of Miami Civilian Investigative Panel, sponsoring scholarships through the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and participating in the Cuban American Bar Association.
He also served as President of Temple Solel and has been involved with the United Way.
Jason Bloch is deeply committed to his community and the country that has given so much to him and his family. He aims to return to service as a Circuit Court Judge for Miami-Dade County, believing in a judiciary that promotes justice and protects everyone’s rights.
He pledges to incorporate his values of integrity, service, and equality in his role as a judge, serving each community member fairly and justly. He humbly asks for the vote of Miami-Dade County residents on Election Day, August 20, 2024.
