Who is Julia Kelly?

Julia Kelly graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with University Honors. She pursued her legal education at Michigan State University College of Law, where she graduated cum laude in 2006, focusing her studies on criminal law and earning a full merit scholarship.

Legal Career:

Julia Kelly's legal career began in Orange County, California, where she served as a Deputy Public Defender. During this time, she gained substantial experience as a trial attorney, handling a variety of criminal cases, including juvenile petitions and adult felony and misdemeanor cases.

Julia's trial experience is extensive, having successfully represented clients in cases involving serious charges such as felony gang involvement, robberies, arson, and more. Since returning to West Michigan, she has continued to provide vigorous defense for her clients, taking on cases at both the state and federal levels, and successfully arguing in the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Bar Admissions and Professional Associations:

Julia has been admitted to practice in several prestigious bars, including the California State Bar since 2007 and the State Bar of Michigan since 2013. She is also a member of the Federal District Courts for both the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan.

Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association, among others.

Community Involvement and Advocacy:

Beyond her legal practice, Julia is deeply involved in her community, particularly in initiatives that support children and families, veterans, and social justice. She is a co-chair of the ACLU Lawyers Committee of West Michigan and actively participates in state and local bar organizations.
