Nick Buckley is a candidate running for mayor, with a life story characterized by overcoming substantial personal and socioeconomic challenges. Raised in a single-parent household on a council estate and attending a failing school, Buckley initially struggled with accepting personal responsibility.

This self-awareness led to a pivotal change, significantly improving his life. Buckley embarked on his professional journey as a Market Trader, later transitioning into wholesale, and subsequently embarked on a new career at Manchester Airport.

His tenure there was cut short due to an industrial accident, which led him to roles within Manchester Council as a Youth Intervention Officer and Community Safety Coordinator. During this period, Buckley earned recognition for his efforts in reducing crime and antisocial behavior and for his advisory role to the national government.

In response to the austerity measures of 2011, Buckley opted for redundancy and invested his severance in founding Mancunian Way, a charity aimed at preventing youth involvement in crime. This initiative has garnered multiple awards, and Buckley himself was honored with an MBE in 2019 for his significant contributions, including exposing child exploitation and initiating homeless support projects.
