Nicole Castka has dedicated her life and career to public service in Detroit and Wayne County. For nearly three decades, she has passionately advocated for her clients as a criminal defense attorney, bringing justice and fair play to her work.
Her experience spans from handling simple traffic violations to complex first-degree murder cases, conducting over hundreds of jury trials. This extensive experience in criminal courts is unmatched by any other candidate.
In 2017, Nicole founded the Create a Bright Life Detroit Chapter, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has fed and clothed over 61,095 homeless people in Detroit. She has also appeared free of charge in several courts, assisting in clearing warrants to help citizens obtain stable employment and housing.
Nicole is committed to expanding and protecting election integrity, voter rights, human rights, medical privacy rights, and urban farming initiatives. She frequently volunteers in community gardens and holds Expungement Clinics to educate citizens about the law.
Raised in rural Ohio by hard-working, under-educated parents, Nicole saved enough money to attend law school in Detroit. Her upbringing has given her insight into people from diverse backgrounds and education levels.
After law school, she worked for seven years at the public defender’s office in Detroit, developing a deep compassion for the underserved community. This experience has equipped her with the expertise needed to serve Detroit and Wayne County as a judge.
Outside of her legal work, Nicole advocates for healthy living, teaching yoga, meditation, and pranayama in the metro-Detroit area since 2011. She believes in lifting one another up through wellness and healthful living.
Nicole is committed to fairness, kindness, and humanity in the courtroom, bringing her extensive legal experience, public service, and compassion to the Wayne County Circuit Court bench.
