Peter Young has been a committed Councillor for Division 5 on the Gold Coast, serving from 2000 to 2012 and resuming in 2016. With a background in the Army Reserve, studies in Political Science, Urban Geography, and a career in road safety and geographic information systems, Peter has a strong track record of public service.
Known for his independence from political parties and refusal to accept developer funding, he focuses on community interests, securing electoral victories through grassroots campaigns and opposing inappropriate developments. Despite a brief hiatus after an unsuccessful mayoral bid, he continued to contribute to community service, returning to the council with substantial community support for his focus on improved facilities, responsible planning, and transparent representation, leading to an unopposed re-election in 2020 and a bid for re-election in 2024.
