Who is Timothy Kennedy?

Timothy Kennedy is a prominent political figure serving as the Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and representing District 63 as a member of the Democratic and Working Families parties. His legislative portfolio is extensive, with chairmanship roles in both the Transportation Committee and the State-Native American Relations Committee, and memberships in several other committees including Banks, Cities 2, Energy and Telecommunications, Finance, Insurance, the Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction & Overdose Prevention, Rules, and the Select Majority Task Force on Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises.

Since taking office in January 2011, Senator Kennedy has been a strong advocate for Western New York, ensuring the region receives substantial funding and state resources. Notably, in March 2019, he secured $100 million for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority to support a five-year capital plan, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing local transportation infrastructure.

Kennedy has pursued an aggressive legislative agenda, focusing on enhancing safety and regulatory standards. He successfully sponsored laws to install cameras on school buses to catch law-breaking drivers and led comprehensive limo safety reforms, which were rapidly signed into law.

These efforts underscore his dedication to protecting New York residents and improving transportation safety standards. His legislative initiatives extend beyond transportation safety.

Kennedy was instrumental in the passage of Jay-J's Law and Jackie’s Law, which aim to protect the most vulnerable from repeat child abuse and GPS stalking, respectively. He has also been a vocal supporter of workforce development initiatives, such as the Northland Workforce Center, and actively facilitates job connections through the Kennedy Jobs File and the Queen City Job Fair.

A lifelong resident of Western New York, Kennedy's background is rooted in a blue-collar family from Buffalo. He is an alumnus of St.

Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and D’Youville College, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in occupational therapy. Before his political career, he worked for 11 years as a licensed occupational therapist, serving geriatric and pediatric patients.

Kennedy's personal life is deeply intertwined with the community he serves; he resides in Buffalo with his wife, Katie, and their three children, Connor, Eireann, and Padraic. His career and legislative work reflect a deep commitment to community service, safety, and economic development, aimed at improving the lives of his constituents and bolstering the region's growth and prosperity.
